Gingivitis is a very common condition which periodically affects most people.

How it works:
Gingivitis is the body’s natural reaction to bacterial infection in and around the gums. It causes the gums to swell slightly and become sore and prone to bleeding.
If gingivitis becomes chronic, it can develop into periodontitis.
The body’s defence mechanisms:

- Poor dental hygiene
- Poor immune system
Prevention:
What will your dentist/dental hygienist do?
Your dentist/dental hygienist will assess the severity of your Gingivitis, then advise you on how to improve your dental hygiene to prevent the problem from reoccurring. No further treatment is usually necessary.
