A root canal procedure is something which many people needlessly fear.

What is it?
During a root canal, the dentist creates a hole in the chamber which houses the nerve. He/she then removes the contents of this chamber and replaces them with a root-filling material so as to leave no room for bacteria to collect.
The goal of a root canal procedure is to remove any bacteria and/or dead tissue from inside a tooth.
Why is it used?
A root canal is performed to treat or prevent toothache and/or inflammation in the jawbones.
What are the risks?
Root canal procedures are unsuccessful 20% of the time. If one fails, solutions include: a new root canal, apical resection, extraction and operative extraction.
