Normal periodontitis treatment consists of a scaling procedure and being given advice.

What is it?

Normal periodontitis treatment combats periodontitis by removing calculus and bacteria from the teeth.

It does this through scaling and instruction on how to keep the teeth clean to avoid periodontitis.

Why is it used?

If left untreated, periodontitis can lead to tooth loss. Successful treatment can stop deterioration and save the teeth.

What are the risks?

If the scaling is done poorly, dental hygiene is not improved sufficiently or the patient has reduced immune function due to other factors, a normal periodontitis treatment will not be successful.

Even when normal treatment succeeds, it may be necessary to remove some teeth if they have lost too much of their anchoring.

It may also be necessary to proceed with surgical Periodontitis treatment to ensure healthy conditions in the gingival tissues.

What are the alternatives?
